ARTS 3334 - Product and Environmental DesignUG Credit Hours: 3
This course is designed to provide students with both a solid foundation and a forward-thinking understanding of product and environmental design. Through a combination of theoretical knowledge and practical application, students will explore the principles, processes, and techniques involved in creating impactful and functional designs for physical spaces and products. They will learn to consider user experience, ergonomics, sustainability, and aesthetics when designing for both the built environment and tangible objects. The course emphasizes the importance of collaboration, research, prototyping, and interactive design processes to create innovative and thoughtfully designed products and environments. This course encourages students to push the boundaries of traditional graphic design practices by incorporating elements of industrial product design, architecture, and user-centered design. Students will have the opportunity to explore emerging technologies, materials, and fabrication techniques in the Makerspace to create designs that are both visually striking, conceptually meaningful, and functional. By the end of the course, students will have developed a well-rounded skill set in product and environmental design, empowering them to create cutting-edge designs that meet industry standards while also considering the social, cultural, and environmental impact of their work.
