Associate Professor: Clara Richardson, Program Director
Assistant Professor: Tribou

Purpose/Introduction

The purpose of the Master of Accountancy program is to enhance the knowledge and skills of post-graduates and working professionals to advance in their careers through completion of their graduate degree, as well as achievement of a CPA designation.

As an accounting professional, the bottom line among prospective employers and clients is your proven proficiency - in technical knowledge, critical thinking ability and communication skills.

A Certified Public Accounting (CPA) license is a well-known and respected  business credential. That license, and the person who holds it, are viewed very favorably by future employers and the community. It requires a level of expertise and knowledge that is sought out by employers, both in and outside of public accounting.

Program Objectives

  1. To build on basic knowledge from undergraduate study in accounting.
  2. To promote communication skills so that students can converse effectively in oral and written forms.
  3. To advance critical thinking skills amongst the students so that they can efficiently address complex accounting problems.
  4. To enhance teamwork skills whereby students are effectually prepared for work in public accounting and the accounting industry.
  5. To augment research skills so that students can perform scholarly analysis of accounting issues.
  6. To motivate professional responsibility and development skills within the students.
  7. To provide students with exposure to CPA exam materials.

Admission Criteria

In addition to the general graduate studies entrance requirements, applicants must complete or have completed ACCT 2310 , ACCT 3303 , ACCT 3311 , ACCT 3312 , and ACCT 4390  or the equivalent.

Conditional Admission: In the last semester of the undergraduate degree, McMurry students may be conditionally admitted if they meet all admission requirements except the undergraduate degree. If admitted, the student may take one or two graduate courses for graduate credit. Full admission will occur upon graduation. Credit cannot be earned for the  same course at both the undergraduate and graduate level.
